Raul Torrez
Commander - Marines

 Raul Torrez served four years (1965-69) in the United States Marines Corps; including a year in Vietnam. He was a sergeant in the 3rdTank Battalion in the 3rd Marine Division.

 As a veteran, he is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6309, and currently the Commander. Previously, he served as Senior Vice Commander, Junior Vice Commander, and Chairman for the Voice of Democracy/Patriots Pen Scholarship Program. He is also a member of the Post’s Color Guard and Honor Guard and a regular bingo night volunteer.

 Raul was born and raised in Texas, before moving to Northern California. After serving in the military, he attended San Jose State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in Mexican/American studies. He went on to teach history for 34 years at Live Oak High School and retired in 2008; coaching wrestling for a good part of those years of teaching.

 He and his wife, Irma, of 53 years, have three daughters, are the proud grandparents of three grandsons and a granddaughter, and currently resides in Morgan Hill. When he’s not volunteering in the community, he likes to fish, hunt, cruise, RV, cycle, take walks, go to movies, and support his grandchildren in their educational and sports endeavors.
